Being in nature can be therapeutic

Consider then access to outside spaces in which you can attend therapy sessions. This can be very beneficial and you may feel more comfortable outdoors, as perhaps attending sessions in a more traditional setting may feel more challenging for you.

I aim to work with nature to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space to explore your present difficulties. The natural environment will be our “therapy room”.

FAQs

  • I can offer both walking and seated therapy. Shoulder to shoulder, seated sessions enable a more immersive therapeutic space whilst walking sessions may feel more comfortable and natural for others.

A coastal location can be available within Frinton-on-sea, Essex. A rural setting, beside the river or within a woodland, can be additionally offered within the area of Manningtree. Each location will have nearby parking, toilet facilities, temporary shelter and seating if preferred.

There is also a garden therapy room available in Frinton for when it is deemed unsuitable, due to adverse weather conditions, for us to meet for an outdoor session. This room can also be available if you would like a phased introduction to outdoor therapy. Alternatively you may prefer to continue sessions within the garden room. The garden room is ideal for evening sessions in the darker Autumn and Winter months.

This can all be discussed further on enquiry.

  • For some, being outside brings with it a sense of space, this can be helpful when discussing emotional difficulties.

It can also enable us to gain insight and connection to how we feel and relate to the world and those around us.

Nature and natural materials will enable us to work in a more creative way with therapy.

This can at times assist a deeper exploration and connection into closely held feelings and emotions which may be hard to express in words alone.

Just being in nature can be enough at times too.

There has been research and data into the physiological and psychological benefits of being outdoors and nature. Research and data shows that when we spend time in nature our breathing rate slows, our heart rate stabilises and less cortisol is produced in our bodies.

Being in nature and amongst natural materials can engage all the senses, therefore increasing our connection and appreciation of nature and the world around us.

  • Initially we will have a 15 minute call where you can ask me any queries you may have about attending therapy. We will arrange a time for you to attend an initial introductory session.

Our initial session will be our introduction to each other and this will enable you to decide whether you wish to continue on to work with me. Within this session you will be able to share your thoughts and feelings around what has led you to seek therapy.

Your safety is of paramount importance. I hold a current DBS Certificate and I have personally chosen locations which, whilst in nature, also have public areas nearby.

  • Sessions will be £45 per 50 minute session. Ideally sessions will be weekly and at the same time, unless otherwise agreed. This will be discussed further on enquiry.

  • Email sarahbainesoutdoortherapy@gmail.com to arrange a free consultation where you can ask questions and I can give you more information and pricing. Preferably this consultation would be face to face but we could arrange a phone call if necessary.
